Stanley Kubrick was supposed to direct this revisionist western, until Marlon Brando decided to make it his debut behind the camera. Rod Serling (Twilight Zone) and Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch) are uncredited screenwriters on this tale of revenge. Brando gets ditched by his bank robbing partner and wows to track him down once he gets out of jail. Paramount eventually took away the film from Brando and cut down his five-hour version to 141 minutes.
