Rasputin, a boisterous, lustful monk with extraordinary mental powers, endears himself to the Czarina and the royal family when he cures Alexei, heir to the throne. Rasputin rises to power and influence over the imperial court, much to the dismay of the local authorities. All attempts to assassinate him fail.
